Welcome Home Box | Curated by Böhm

Moving into a new home marks a truly exciting chapter full of change, and Böhm understands the importance of making that transition as smooth and welcoming as possible. To celebrate this milestone, Böhm has created the "Welcome Home Box"—a thoughtfully assembled collection of design-led items meant to add a personal touch to your new space, curated by the team, for our clients. This includes five carefully selected items, each chosen not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its functionality, with a focus on sustainability and support for local businesses.

In this article, we’ll explore the unique contents of the Welcome Home Box and provide you with styling tips to help you seamlessly integrate these pieces into your new home.

The Box

When selecting what container to use for our Welcome Home Box, we wanted to use something which wouldn't be redundant once the gift has been opened. We've selected a 1200gsm Kraft Gift Box, which is highly durable, and has a magnetic close. Once you've opened the gift, the box can be reused as storage within your home, or even re-used as a gift box for someone else. Furthermore, the box is both made of recycled materials and is recyclable itself, as well as being biodegradable and compostable.

Item 1: Stainless Steel Egg Cups

The first item is from Nordic Muse, a beautifully curated store on Tib Street. (Read more in our Northern Quarter Area Guide). These stainless steel egg cups have a classic modernist aesthetic, and bring an element of design to your everyday breakfast. They are made from premium stainless steel, which ensures that they will be a long-lasting staple in your kitchen. They are resistant to rust and corrosion, meaning that they are not only timeless in aesthetic, but also in function.

Item 2 and 3: Beeswax Candles and Candle Holders

These beautiful candles are sourced from another store mentioned in our Area Guide: Form Lifestyle Store, on Bradley Street. The candles are handmade in small batches by Five Bees Yard, out of their Hertfordshire based apiary. They are made from natural raw beeswax (as opposed to commercial beeswax which are made in factories), using the ancient technique of hand-dipping.

To accompany these candles, we have included a set of two candles holders, sourced from Sostrene Grene. Although the store opened in 1973 in the Danish city of Aarhaus, their Manchester store has been open for a number of years, and is a brilliant place to browse for homeware, craft and more.

Item 4: Flower Frog for Ikebana

This flower frog allows you to bring the Japanese art of Ikebana into your home. Ikebana translates from the Japanese for “making flowers alive”, or “arranging flowers”, and involves arranging stems, leaves and flowers in different containers, and traces its roots back to the Heian period (794-1185).

The “flower frog” itself is a small metal tool with metal needles which allow you to arrange various stems with precision, and can be sat hidden in any bowl or vase. This tool allows you to experiment with this art form, changing with the seasons of the flowers around your new home, as well as the customisation of the vessel which offers further customisation for your tastes.

The art of Ikebana has seven principles: Silence, Minimalism, Shape and Line, Form, Humanity, Aesthetics, and Structure. Each of these is explored and explained further here.

Item 5: Piccolo Seed Box

The final item to be found in the Welcome Home Box is the Seed Packets from Piccolo, sourced from Fred Aldous. The brand specialises in researching and selecting dwarf vegetables and other herbs and plants which are suitable for growing in a range of homes. So, whether you're moving in to an apartment with a window box, or a house with a large garden, you'll be able to enjoy growing your own fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits or flowers with ease. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, these seed packets make it simple to enjoy the benefits of homegrown plants, with instructions on every stage from sowing, to growing, to harvesting.

The Welcome Home Box will contain a seed packet from Piccolo, which is selected from the large range based on seasonality and availability at the time.

We hope that this curated selection of design-led items offer a welcoming gift for new home-owners, and is one which also leaves space for your own tastes and preferences in how and where they find a home in your new space.

Note: The contents of the Welcome Home Box may alter slightly based on stock availability in our local Manchester boutique stores - such as seasonal alterations in the Piccolo Seed Box, or different candles based on availability. However, we will always strive to match the contents exactly, or as close as we can, to reflect the content of this editorial.
